the process with Funkhouse Photography

inquiry

The whole process starts at my contact form. You can also call me to chat- I love to talk on the phone! But I recognize that a lot of don’t, so inquiring on my contact form works too. You will receive a detailed email guide with session options, example galleries and pricing.

booking

After you’ve reviewed my session guide and we have agreed on the date, time and location of your session, I will email you the contract and retainer invoice. I do require both a completed contract and paid retainer in order to officially book your session. Once you’re booked, I will send my clothing and style guide to get you started on selecting outfits. During this process, you can also text me outfit questions and flatlays if you need extra help.

proof gallery review

I will email your edited and watermarked proof gallery within two weeks of your session date. Most times it will be sent in less than two weeks. If you’re in a crunch, we can discuss what expedited editing looks like. Depending on the type of session you have, you will get a different number of images included in your session fee. If you would like additional images, you can always purchase those separately!

photoshoot day

Yay! Photoshoot day. My goal is to create images that will be cherished for decades. I’m also focused on the smallest of details- fly away hairs, weird bunches in clothing and lipstick on teeth- so you can focus on just having fun. I will also help guide you into the most flattering poses and angles for the images we are creating. As much as I want your photos to feel unposed and candid, my nearly 10 years of experience have also taught me that making sure everyone looks and feels their best is just as important.

final gallery delivery

After I receive your final selections, you will receive a final email with a link to download your unwatermarked high resolution digital images. You can then print yourself and share your images with friends and family. Many of my clients feel complete with their digital images, but I also offer custom keepsakes for you to cherish and pass on, whether in an album format, wall art, or a set of beautiful, professionally-printed photographs.

Client love

  • "Working with Robin was absolutely amazing and our family photos turned out better than we could have asked for!! The process of setting up an appointment to the photo session was simple and straightforward. We have two very high energy toddlers so we were very nervous about how the session would turn out and if we could get any actual good photos. This is where Robin blew us away. Our two littles warmed up to her right away and she was able to capture their joy in their purest form. Our photos turned out fantastic and we ended up purchasing the whole gallery because we couldn’t just limit ourselves to 20. I would highly recommend Funkhouse Photography! We are forever grateful to Robin and for capturing these special moments that we will cherish forever!"

    - Alicia S.

  • "We worked with Robin for family photos with our 9 month old and almost 3 year old and had a great experience. The location was beautiful and Robin’s expertise with the lighting and backgrounds was clear. Our toddler isn’t the easiest to work with generally and Robin had tons of tricks up her sleeve to make him laugh and even captured several unplanned candid pics of him that are absolutely perfect. The entire experience was professional, positive, and easy. We’re using her again for large family photo shoot of 14 this spring and will definitely use her again in the future!"

    - Alison H.

  • "Robin did a FABULOUS job with newborn pictures of my son. I spent countless hours researching a photographer whose style I liked and also someone with whom I would feel comfortable handling my newborn baby, and she did NOT disappoint! She has a few package options, and we decided to select the 3 hour newborn session (which includes numerous props and swaddles - Robin is a swaddle guru!), which I highly recommend. It sounds like a long time, but it allowed time for me to periodically calm my son if he got fussy. Robin worked many small miracles that morning with posing my son and also my dog, which is no small feat! My husband and I are absolutely in love with the finished product. These will forever be some of my most treasured pictures!"

    - Katie B.

  • "We keep coming back for more sessions because Robin is so easy to work with and the photos are incredible! She has a real gift and we can’t wait for our next photo session. I appreciate her attention to detail and quick replies when coordinating."

    -Rachel W

  • "After following Robin’s work on social media, I had the opportunity to visit her for a headshot session. I’ve never had professional photos taken before and she was so friendly, professional, and understanding. I LOVE the finished product and was amazed by how quickly she sent me both the proofs and final photos."

    -Erin R

  • "Great experiences with Robin as our photographer for multiple events with my young children over the years. We have had a fun 1 year cake smash and cute butterfly/garden session along with the typical santa/holiday photos (that have been different backgrounds every year so far!) She is very detailed with her instructions, clothing tips, weather advice, and THE quickest turnaround times. Highly recommend!"

    -Vicky W.

  • "Robin's vision of how to capture families, siblings, and individuals is unlike others in the business. She captures their true selves with joy, energy and love. I appreciate the time she took to capture our girls just being themselves then elevating them by catching "that" moment. Can't wait to have her capture their freeness again soon!"

    -Ashley P.

  • "We’ve used Robin for both large family reunion photographs and Santa mini sessions for several years. She is a master at her craft! She’s super easy to work with and responsive to emails, even giving suggestions on what types of outfits are best with coordination ideas for large groups. She’s also the type of person you quickly trust and get along with. It definitely helps when you genuinely like the person on the other side of the lens. Kids are not always the easiest subjects to photograph, but Robin always puts them at ease and makes taking photos fun to ensure you get the perfect shot of their smiling faces. Her turnaround time is super quick and the final images always end up amazing. You really can’t put a price tag on those memories and there’s no one else we’d trust more than Funkhouse Photography!"

    -Steph F.

  • "Robin was amazing to work with when she photographed our family session during peak cherry blossom season. The blooms were particularly finicky that year and we had to reschedule a couple different times due to inclement weather or the later arrival of the blooms. She never waivered on giving us the optimal and peak bloom time frame, which I appreciated SO much, since we were only living in the area a short time. She was patient as we navigated the crowds and our photos turned out gorgeous! She was great with our four year old and getting him to pay attention and giggle at her jokes and funny faces. We loved our experience with her, and we think she’s a fantastic photographer and great person all around."

    -Nicole M.

  • "As a voice over artist, my headshot is super important. Potential clients hear my voice, so I needed an image that matches my voice, as well as my brand. It's tricky. But Robin nailed it! She got what I was going for, heard and understood the framing requirements I asked for, and delivered photos that are are just right on the mark. I get compliments from clients on the photos all the time, and other VOs ask me who my photographer is. Having the images that Robin provided has absolutely helped my business to grow. Thanks Robin - you are, literally, the best!"

    -Brad G.

  • "We have are so grateful to have been able to use Funkhouse Photography countless times now. Robin photographed our real estate team for Washingtonian Magazine. She has covered charity benefits that we’ve hosted, done our family photos for Christmas cards and newborn shots. She has also done headshots for our team. She can do it all! She has so much creativity, and I love not only that she welcomes “different” but she is always seeking out unique spots throughout the DC Metro for more powerful aesthetics. If you need any kind of photos, hire the best. Robin is the one."

  • I do have a studio in the Kentlands in Gaithersburg, MD. I often photograph newborns, baby milestone sessions, cake smashes, headshots, and holiday sessions in my studio. For family sessions, I am mostly an on location photographer and love photographing outdoors, but also offer family sessions in my studio. I do also offer photography sessions in your own home.

  • Yes- on a case by case basis. I have photographed all kinds of events including birthday parties, anniversary parties, corporate events, rehearsal dinners, weddings, oliday parties, baptisms, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, along with other kinds of celebrations. These are considered 'event photography'. Please contact me for more details.

  • I am a Nikon girl and always will be! Currently I am using a D750 as well as a Z6ii. My lenses include a 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8, among other lenses. I use Einstein studio lights and several SB700s and use them off-camera when necessary. I always have back-up equipment in case anything malfunctions.

  • Of course! I protect myself and my clients with professional liability insurance.

  • Both! My photography sessions include high resolution digital images.  I also offer luxury professional photography products starting at $39, including premium quality flush mount leather albums, wall art including canvas gallery wraps and metal prints, custom framing, and much more. It is important to me to offer my clients several options- including the option to print your digital images at your own convenience as well as the option to purchase items you can display in your home immediately.

  • Typically, maternity sessions are best done between 27 and 35 weeks. Earlier for multiples!

  • The best time to photograph a newborn baby is when they are 5-14 days old, when they can still curl and sleep longer. Most of my newborn clients book me in their second or third trimester, so I have your EDD on my calendar to make sure I am available. I do also photograph newborns at any age, so if you didn’t book a session before baby’s arrival, I can still accommodate your family.
